Individual, Institutional, and Community Sources of School Violence: A Meta-Analysis

In order to create effective, evidence-based policies to address violence in schools, the sources or “root causes” of school violence must be identified. This project examines what existing literature deems the important individual, institutional (i.e. school), and community sources of violence at school. This project will subject the body of empirical literature on school violence to a meta-analysis to determine the key individual-, school-, and community-level factors that substantially influence violence in school. The meta-analysis will organize the existing empirical knowledge on school violence, identify the key factors that should be targeted for change and/or intervention to reduce school violence, and determine which school-level and community-level factors influence of the likelihood that a student will either offend or be victimized at school.
