Dr. Eric Stewart and Dr. Ramiro Martinez (Florida International University) received grant funding from the National Science Foundation for their proposal entitled, “Collaborative Research: Local Context, Latino Growth and Public Attitudes.” The project examines the determinants of public sentiment toward Latinos in the United States. To better understand these processes, Drs. Stewart and Martinez will analyze national survey data on punitive sentiment towards immigrants and Latinos. The investigators will also examine whether changes in the size of the Latino population, as well as other social, economic, and political characteristics, lead to anti-Latino hate crime victimization and/or immigrant restriction policies across counties in the United States.
