The College is pleased to announce that Marin Wenger is the recipient of the 2020 Robert J. Bursik Junior Scholar Award. The award recognizes the best paper published, online or in print, by American Society of Criminology members.

Dr. Wenger received the award for her article, “Omitted level bias in multilevel research: An empirical test distinguishing block group, tract, and city effects of disadvantage on crime” which was published last year in Justice Quarterly.

She will be honored for this achievement at the Division of Communities and Place (DCP) membership meeting held at the American Society of Criminology Conference in November.

Dr. Wenger has been an Assistant Professor with the College since receiving her Ph.D. in Sociology from Pennsylvania State University. She also serves as the Faculty Affiliate of the Hate Crime Research and Policy Institute, a branch of the College’s Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research.

Her research interests focus on communities and crime, contextual effects, racial stratification, racial disparity, hate crime, deviance, and quantitative methods.

The College congratulates Dr. Wenger on this well deserved honor along with her outstanding work in the discipline.
