Florida State University Professor of Criminology, Kevin M. Beaver, is ranked among the world’s top researchers by Research.com, thanks to his outstanding publication and citations record.
Research.com uses the D-Index, a field-specific measure of a scholar’s research impact and productivity, for its rankings. By that measure, Beaver ranks inside the top one percent of psychology researchers worldwide.
Research.com does not rank criminology researchers but given the large number of psychology researchers and publications worldwide, Beaver’s ranking is especially noteworthy, said Dean Thomas Blomberg.
“It’s an outstanding achievement on its own but especially when you consider the sheer number of researchers and publications included in the ranking,” Blomberg said. “This is one more accolade that underscores Kevin’s innovative approach to his research and his outstanding productivity.”
Beaver is the Judith Rich Harris Professor of Criminology in FSU’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice. He is also the Director of the Biosocial Criminology Research and Policy Institute in the CCCJ’s Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research.
Beaver’s work explores the gene-environmental basis for a range of criminal and delinquent outcomes. According to Research.com, Beaver has 422 publications and 15,133 citations.
“I have been researching for more than 20 years now and I’m as interested in this work as I’ve ever been,” Beaver said. “The ranking is a nice acknowledgement. When you see your research cited by others it helps validate the hard work that goes into it.”
Given the interdisciplinary nature of Beaver’s research, his studies have appeared in a broad array of journals including Developmental Psychology, Biological Psychiatry, Criminology, Sexual Abuse and the American Journal of Public Health.
