Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCCJ) is again being recognized as the top college in its field—earning the No. 1 spot in the 2025-26 national ranking published by PapersOwl.

The college also earned No. 1 rankings in the most recent releases from the Journal of Criminal Justice Education and University Magazine. Niche ranked the college No. 2 nationally last month.

PapersOwl’s ranking drew from other notable rankings services including U.S. News & World Report, University Magazine, Niche, and student reviews. Factors such as academic reputation, including faculty quality, research output, and consistency across major publications, internship opportunities and career support are weighed in the ranking.

CCCJ was followed by The University of Maryland, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the University of Cincinnati, and Arizona State University.

The CCCJ mission of bringing research to life is built on a commitment to research that translates into real world solutions and policies. Dean Thomas Blomberg said that commitment continues to set the college apart.

“The field of criminology is changing every day,” he said. “Our mission to produce translational research ensures that we remain on the cutting edge of the challenges and opportunities those changes present.”
