FSU College Highlights and Selected National Rankings (As of December 2013)

MOST EFFICIENT HIGH-QUALITY UNIVERSITY IN THE NATION

U.S. News & World Report has named Florida State University the most efficient high quality university in the country for the second year in a row (2013, 2014). The university’s value ranking rose from 42nd among public universities to 40th, evidence that Florida State combines an outstanding education with economic value.

“BEST VALUE” PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

Florida State consistently delivers an affordable, high quality education and offers distinctive opportunities to engage its students. In 2012, the Princeton Review and USA Today ranked Florida State the 4th “Best Value” public university in the nation.

PROGRAMS RANKED NO. 1

The Journal of Criminal Justice Education ranked Florida State’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice No. 1 in the nation for faculty research. The graduate program in interior design was named No. 1 in the nation by “America’s Best Architectural and Design School,” 2013. U.S. News & World Report“Best Graduate Schools,” 2014 edition, ranks the School of Information’s school library media program No. 1. Numerous other programs at Florida State rank in the Top 5.

OUTSTANDING ATHLETICS

Following another outstanding athletic year in 2012-13 in which Florida State won four ACC Championships including one in football, the Seminoles have started the 2013-14 season near the top in every fall sport. Football and soccer each entered October ranked in the national Top 10 and volleyball was ranked in the Top 20.

LEADING THE STATE OF FLORIDA

Florida State University leads Florida in four of eight areas of external funding for the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Leads in Rhodes Scholars, claiming all three of the Rhodes Scholars from public universities in Florida since 2006. Highest percentage of alumni giving back than any university in Florida. Highest amount of National Science Foundation research and development expenditures in the state. College of Law is the No. 1 law school in Florida with the highest job placement and one of the highest passing rates on the Florida Bar Exam.

National Black Law Students Association, three times since 2006. In addition, four times since 2008, the Student Bar Association has received the national Student Bar Association Award.
1 National High Magnetic Field Laboratory:
The only national lab in Florida. Holds the most world records for the most powerful magnets on Earth.
2 FSU Athletics, second in the nation, overall performance:
Following ACC championships in football, volleyball and women’s cross country and a national semifinal appearance by the soccer team, FSU is poised to continue its historic run of record finishes in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Standings. FSU has placed 5th, 9th, and 5th in the past three Director’s Cups, marking the first Top 10 finishes in the history of the program.
3 College of Law, nation’s 3rd best for Hispanic Students:
Hispanic Business Magazine. The College of Medicine was ranked 7th.

1 Rhodes Scholars:
All three Rhodes Scholars from public universities in Florida since 2006 have been from FSU.
1 College of Law:
Highest job placement in Florida. FSU Law is 18th in the nation among public law schools in job placement, 39th in the nation among all law schools. Graduates also continue to excel on the Florida Bar Examination with an 87% passage rate compared to 77% overall for first time test takers.
1 Student Fulbright Scholars:
For the second year in a row, one of the nation’s top research institutions for producing student Fulbright scholars and leads the state in the number of students (10) who received Fulbright fellowships for the 2013-14 academic year.
