College of Criminology & Criminal Justice Associate Professor Jillian Turanovic and Mark C. Stafford Professor of Criminology Daniel Mears were recently honored by the University with faculty awards.
Dr. Turanovic was awarded the Graduate Faculty Mentor Award which recognizes faculty members who have provided outstanding service to graduate students. This is Dr. Turanovic’s second faculty award. She was awarded the Undergraduate Teaching Award by the University for the 2019-2020 academic year. Additionally, her research has garnered multiple awards, including the 2018 Developmental & Life-Course Criminology Early Career Award and the 2019 Ruth Shonle Cavan Young Scholar Award.
Dr. Mears was awarded the Distinguished Research Professor Award which acknowledges outstanding research and/or creative activity at the professor level. This is one of many honors Dr. Mears has received. In 2020, Dr. Mears received the 2020 Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Corrections and Sentencing. In 2019, he was recognized with the Academy of Criminal Justice Science’s Outstanding Book Award for “Out-of-Control Criminal Justice” (Cambridge University Press). In 2018, Dr. Mears was named a Fellow by the American Society of Criminology (ASC). Further, in 2017, Dr. Mears was awarded the Academy of Criminal Justice Science’s Outstanding Paper Award.
Dr. Turanovic’s research focuses on violent victimization and offending, correctional policy, and the collateral consequences of incarceration. She also serves as the Director of the Crime Victim Research and Policy Institute, a branch of the College’s Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research.
Dr. Mears extensive work in the discipline focuses on incarceration, crime causation, criminal and juvenile justice, and crime prevention and intervention. He also serves as the Director of the Corrections Research & Policy Institute, a branch of the College’s Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research.
The College congratulates Dr. Turanovic and Dr. Mears on their well deserved honors along with their exceptional work in the discipline.
