This project involved a validation study of the Residential Positive Achievement Change Tool (R-PACT), a data collection tool used by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to identify residential youths’ criminogenic needs and risks. The project assessed two questions regarding the R-PACT: First, can the R-PACT data adequately predict who will become a reoffender?; second, what do the R-PACT data reveal about the changes that youths experience during the residential stay? These questions were examined with data from a sample of 4,735 residential youths who experienced a residential completion during 2010-2011, with recidivism assessed in the 12 months after release.
