In becoming a police officer at the age of 20, Seth Alday took the first step in what he hopes will be a lifelong career in law enforcement. Now, as he accepts his bachelor's degree in criminology, from Florida State University's College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, he is taking another.  Alday, who is from Altha, Florida, is currently a patrol lieutenant with the Chattahoochee Police Department in Gadsden County and since 2022, he's been a student at FSU. A couple years into his career, Alday was looking toward the future.

Students in Florida State University’s chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, an association comprised of students interested in careers in law enforcement and related fields, took home multiple awards at the group’s national conference. The 14-student FSU LAE team, comprised of students in the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, took home multiple first-place awards in academic competition, overall spirit and a lip sync competition that closed out the conference.

A researcher from Florida State University’s College of Criminology & Criminal Justice has been named editor-in-chief of a leading criminology journal. Daniel Mears, Distinguished Research Professor and Mark C. Stafford Professor of Criminology, will lead editorial work for Justice Quarterly, which is published by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Mears will share the editor-in-chief title with Joshua Cochran at the University of Cincinnati. Cochran earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at FSU.
